Aaron Goldberg è uno dei pianisti più noti della scena mondiale di questi ultimi anni. Americano nativo di Boston ha assunto anche in Europa una notevole popolarità grazie alle sue esibizioni che contemplano spettacolarità e una profondità crescente nel tempo. Fortemente ispirato dai classici e in particolare dal pianista giamaicano Monty Alexander, Aaron è dotato di grande senso dello swing. La sua curiosità lo ha portato ad appassionarsi sia alla musica brasiliana, in particolare alle composizioni di Antonio Carlos Jobim che propone in ogni suo show, sia alla musica europea colta. Per tale motivo è a tutto titolo da annoverare nell’ambito di quel nucleo di musicisti che negli anni novanta hanno prodotto il nuovo jazz. Dotato di grande prestanza strumentale e di un attacco ritmico-melodico di grande gusto, sin dai primi anni della sua carriera è stato oggetto di attenzione da parte di alcuni tra i più importanti musicisti jazz, da Michael Brecker a Kenny Garreth, da Mark Turner a Kurt Rosenwinkel e in particolare da Joshua Redman con cui intrattiene da più di vent’anni un intenso rapporto di collaborazione artistica guadagnandosi l’appellativo di Pianista delle Stars del jazz. In questo progetto vediamo al suo fianco il grande contrabbassista neozelandese Matt Penman, coetaneo di Goldberg, che trasferitosi più di 30 anni fa a New York si
è imposto subito all’attenzione dei migliori circoli artistici newyorkesi incidendo non poco, al pari di Aaron, nel processo della già citata new wave jazzistica di quegli anni.

Goldberg is widely heralded as one of the art form’s most compelling pianists, both leading his own trio and collaborating with such brilliant icons as Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Guillermo Klein and many more. Simultaneously swinging and embracing risk, his stylistically fluid, singular voice reveals that jazz is a tradition of innovation. Aaron promptly moved back to New York after college, continuing his ascent in bands led by a cross-generational array of icons including Al Foster, Freddie Hubbard, Nicholas Payton, Stefon Harris, Tom Harrell, and Gregory Tardy among others. In late 1997 he formed his first trio with bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland, a widely acclaimed empathic unit that would perform and record consistently for the next two decades and leave their mark upon a generation of musicians. Over the past decade he has toured extensively with his own Trio as well as the Joshua Redman Quartet, carving time for collaborations with some of his other favorite artists including Cecile McLorin Salvant, Ron Carter, Joe Lovano, Peter Bernstein, Camila Meza, Ravi Coltrane, Carl Allen, Madeleine Peyroux, John Ellis and Eli Degibri. He and his bandmates embody the best of what jazz can be today: the ability to speak together in a progressive voice, marking both present and future with their creative stamp.
